A team of tenants and residents are calling on Doncaster people to show their support and vote for them in a national competition.
The Friends of Martinwells Lake have entered their project – also known locally as the Edlington brickponds - in a competition run by Bovril. If they are chosen as one of the winners they receive £20,000 worth of work at the site.
Members of the group, with the support of the wider community, have regular clean up days at the site but they also want to:
*Tackle the overgrown shrubs and pathways.
*Install a sluice which will better control water levels.
*Install some new metal gates at the site
Maureen Tennison, a member of the group, explained: “This site is a potential beauty spot housing carp, tench, bream, perch, roach, pike and chub along with the usual pond life such as newts, frogs and toads. A large variety of water fowl visit the site on a regular basis and geese and swans visit to raise their young. Wild flowers are also abundant including common and bee orchids. So please help us to get enough votes to stand a chance of winning this prize.”
St Leger Homes of Doncaster – the organisation that manages around 21,000 homes for Doncaster Council – who manage the properties nearby, has already offered their support to the project.
To vote for the project visit www.bovril.co.uk/revival, click on ‘vote for the next two’, then enter the code YHOT000368 and press search. When the next page appears press ‘vote’.
Deadline for voting is February 28. |
