Making the most of later life...by trying the Nintendo Wii game!
A campaign to encourage older people in Walsall to live life to the full is continuing with a session on how to use a Nintendo Wii.
The borough-wide ‘Walsall: Caring for You – Make the Most of Your Life! has already held three successful events from Blakenall to Darlaston and is now moving to Broadway North.
The next event is being held on Wednesday 10th March between 10:00am – 2:00pm at Black and Asian Disability Group, Broadway North Centre, 156 Broadway North, Walsall WS1 3BX.
Older people being encouraged to come along and try their hand at the latest games thanks to young volunteers from V-Inspired – as well as get advice, support and enjoy a free buffet.
The Walsall Caring for You scheme is being co-ordinated by an independent partnership of eight charities which have joined forces to help older people in the town.
A series of up to 20 events will be held at venues across Walsall in 2010 including at Mosques, Temples and Churches. They feature events ranging from belly dancing to ‘pampering sessions’ .
A Community Outreach Worker has been appointed to help older people find the support they need and offer free advice on a whole range of issues from claiming benefits to finding dancing classes!
The project will also help older people and their families understand a new system offering people choice about the care and support they receive from the local council.
Co-ordinator Davina Lytton, from Age Concern Walsall, said: “Events so far have proven really popular. The campaign message of helping older people to make the most of their lives remains extremely important.
“These events provide free and independent advice within each community across the borough, as well as guidance about how the system of care will change in 2010. We can talk to you on an individual basis or with a group of people with similar issues – the choice is yours”
The project is being co-ordinated by Age Concern Walsall, DIAL, Caldmore Housing, Walsall Deaf Centre, Walsall Black Sisters, Walsall Disability Forum, BADG (Black and Asian Disability Group), Walsall SUE (Service Users Empowerment). |
